Triple gold
What the Juveniles can do, the Juniors can too: compete in all three competitions and make it to the final each time. And that with four or even five rounds and starting fields ranging from 32 couples (in the Combination) to 61 couples (in the Latin section). In the Standard competition, 38 couples took to the floor; the six finalists danced a total of four rounds. For Danyil Dronyk and Victoriia Melnyk, this resulted in their third gold medal of the week – a “triple” they are already familiar with from their home country, where they are national champions in all three sections.
Ronin Moldovan and Zsofia Gombos also danced in three finals and stood on the podium each time – bronze in the Combination and silver in both Standard and Latin. The final ranking of the Standard competition featured a small curiosity: two couples received a placement score of 12, and two couples a score of 24 – requiring the majority system to determine the correct order. This placed Oskars Vasiljevs and Eva Dmitricenko in third place.
The inconsistent scoring also benefited the DTV couple in the final: Sebastian Bier and Elisabeth Wilhelm finished sixth overall, though not in every dance.
