GOC press conference: content balance in all aspects.

“From Tanzsport Deutschlands point of view you can be very content with the GOC up to now”, DTV president Heidi Estler took a positive stock at the GOC’s final conference. The German couples have reached far more than last year with five gold medals and the second place of the medal table in the same amount of time.

The president of Tanzsport Deutschland was especially happy about the praising words of the GrandSlam Latin competition winner of last night. Armen Tsaturyan/Svetlana Gudyno called the GOC the best competition oft he world and declared that it was an honor to dance here.

The GOC aren’t only a large competition, but also a highly frequented meeting place. Heidi Estler knew about numerous meetings and conferences, which had been scheduled in Stuttgart. The presidium of DanceSport Europe, which had been founded at last years GOC (Heidi Estler is ist vice-president), also met this year. The World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) also uses the GOC as a conference place: a judges congress was taking place before the GOC. More than 300 judges participated. After the GOC a chairperson congress will be held. Around 50 officials will update their knowledge about competition processes.

More medals for Germany, but less couples in all: GOC managing director Harry Körner estimated the decline in registrations to approximately eight per cent or 200 couples less than last year, 120 of the Russian. The decline was more a problem of quantity than of quality. The couples were starting in all age groups. There was a growth in Junior I and Junior II, the couples who are the future of dancesport.

All in all, Harry Körner resumed, the decline in registrations lead to a considerably more relaxed life at the GOC.

This couldn’t be said about Friday evening. The thunderstorm over Stuttgart led to flooding of the GOC-office, the control center of the event. On Saturday morning, Wilfried Scheible CEO of the GOC, the office was temporarily provided with power, the computers didn’t suffer any damage , but financial statements and other numbers couldn’t be determined in time for the press conference. Scheible reckoned that the financial statement will be in the scope of last year.

Katrin Kerber, president of the German Rock’n’Roll and Boogie Woogie association, was full of praise for the GOC. Among the 4,500 couples are 90 Boogie Woogie couples, which have three world championships on Friday and Saturday. She was also satisfied with the athletic balance: the Seniors met the expectations with their vice-title at the world championship; the Juniors were able to gain experiences for the first time at a world championship. Boogie Woogie will also be a part of the next German Open Championships with their European championships.
